Page 4 from HAUNT 5 by RyanOttley Page 4 from HAUNT 5 by RyanOttley
Here's a page from my last issue of Haunt. I'm pretty glad I'm done with it all, it's just way too much work, I'm spreading myself way too thin. I need to concentrate fully on Invincible.

Greg Capullo did the layout,

Me on pencils.

Sad you're leaving Haunt, but glad you'll be able to focus on Invincible and get better sleep. I gotta imagine working on both is not leaving you much time for rest!

I LOVE that first panel. Haunt looks way cool and the background detail is impressive as always.

This is the most Spiderman looking page yet... guess you guys said: "why not" to all the criticism and just embraced it.

It does provide for great visuals!

Can't wait to have the issue in my hands...

Good choice on drawing the line (har-a pun!) and ratcheting back to a workflow you can survive! Loved the Haunt work, but I also don't want to see you grind yourself into paste to get me the Ottley pages I love to see.

Hope the split was 100% amicable (it sounded like it in McFarlane's op-ed), and that more great things are on the way for you--in moderation, of course!

Hey Ryan,
your stuff on haunt has been awesome and this page is trully great. I'm a bit gutted that you've left the book but I'm very glad i can still get my fix on invincible.
can you promise me that when we get the cloning technology working properly that you can clone yourself maybe 4 or 5 times and draw all my fave comics.

Sorry to see you leave this title, tho totally understand why.

Man, I love the way you rendered Haunt in that first panel. The depth of it is awesome.

Sad to see you leaving the book, it's been fun seeing the more grittier side of your art style. plus just having the powerhouse team of all four of you guys on one book was great. At the end of the day though I love Invincible and would much rather see you staying on that book.

Keep up all the fantastic work. I'll buy whatever book you draw. You're one of the best monthly artists out there right now.

Very sad to learn you're quitting this, but I guess you're choosing what's best for you. You've given this comic quite a special visual twist, doubt it's going to be the same with Capullo. It's gonna be enjoyable for sure, but not Ottley-enjoyable.
My hat is off to you, sir.

those are some cool angles, always love seeing how you transform Capullo's layout to pencil. Do you do layouts like this for invincible? or more of small thumbnails?

I do small thumbnails, then I layout the page then finish pencil it.

Wow, without seeing the inked version of this page it looks like Todd McFarlane sticks pretty tight to your linework.

:iconryanottley:

heh. Todd doesn't go over any lines, all the lines you see printed are just darkened pencils. he adds small detail lines when needed.

He does digital inks. So that means he darkens the pencils, then adds his cool little McFarlaney lines.

It's been such gorgeously clean lines throughout. The layouts have been awesome too, which is clearer here than I've seen before due to the residual evidence you've left here. That gives me a world of hope for future Spawn.

But even more for future Invincible. You're my alter idol. (the idol you have for the person you'd want to be but can't).
